Dear Students,
The PATH English Proficiency Exam will be held on September 30-October 1, 2026. Only students registered on or after September 14, 2026, may take this exam.
Stage 1 (Wednesday, September 30, 2026)
The first stage of the exam will take place on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 10:30.
This stage consists of 60 multiple-choice questions assessing listening, grammar, vocabulary and reading skills. The questions cover four proficiency levels: A1, A2, B1 and B2.
To qualify for the second stage, students must answer at least 10 questions correctly at each level: A1, A2, B1 and B2.
Students who meet this requirement will receive an e-mail confirming their eligibility for the second stage after the exam.
In the same e-mail, each student will be assigned an article to prepare for the Speaking Exam. Students are expected to read and study their assigned article before attending the Speaking Exam the following day.
Stage 2 (Thursday, October 1, 2026)
Students who qualify for the second stage will take the Writing Exam at 10:30 on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Following the Writing Exam, students will attend their Speaking sessions according to the schedule provided to them.
During the Speaking Exam, students will be expected to discuss the content of the article assigned to them the previous day and respond to related questions. Students are therefore strongly advised to read and prepare their assigned article carefully before the exam.
Exam Score Distribution
- Multiple-Choice Exam: 60 points
- Writing Exam: 20 points
- Speaking Exam: 20 points
- Total: 100 points
The passing score required for exemption from the English Preparatory Programme is 60/100. For students in the American Culture and Literature and English Translation and Interpreting departments, the required passing score is 70/100.

Speaking Sessions
The exams will be held in Block 2. Information regarding exam rooms will be announced on the notice board on the 4th floor of Block 2 and through the University’s official announcement channels.
As the first section of Stage 1 is the Listening section, students are required to be at the exam building at least 30 minutes before the exam begins. Students who arrive after the Listening section has started will not be admitted to the exam room until the Listening section is completed and will lose the opportunity to answer the Listening questions.
Students must bring their Haliç University student ID card or a valid official photo ID displaying their Turkish Republic ID number.
Important: Students who qualify for Stage 2 should check their university email accounts regularly after the exam on September 30. Information regarding Stage 2 and the article assigned for the Speaking Exam will be sent via e-mail.
Please make sure to fill out the form to indicate that you will attend the exam. Those who do not participate will be assigned to A1 level.
