Message from Faculty
The most important richness of societies is a healthy and well-educated workforce. The quality, delivery and distribution of healthcare services are the most significant indicators of welfare in a country. Therefore, universities have responsibilities to educate healthcare professionals in terms of both quality and quantity in order to increase this welfare level. With this sense of mission, the Vocational School of Health Sciences was founded in 2008 and produced its first graduates in 2011. Afterwards, the Vocational School of Health Sciences was transformed into the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2020.
The Faculty of Health Sciences aims to raise healthcare professionals and educators according to the requirements of our country, who are trained with modern approaches and methods based on science and technology, competent in their professional field, respectful of universal and cultural values and provide their services and technological works for the benefit of society. Our vision is to be a leading academic unit, which is recognized, followed and referenced at the international scientific level and accepted as competent in the education of healthcare sciences and, have a voice in the establishment of health policies in our county. In line with this purpose, our Faculty comprises the Departments of Midwifery, Nursing, Nursing (English), Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition and Dietetics (English), Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (English).
The education in these Departments can be summarized as follows:
The profession of nutritionist examines the relation between human body and food at all stages from the production of food to its use in human cells. The subjects handled within the framework of this education program include specifying the food effects on health, examining the changes of food at all stages from production to consumption, preparing nutrition programs according to the needs of people, preparing diet programs for the treatment of diseases, determining and investigating the health problems of society resulting from nutrition and raising the awareness of public.
The profession of midwifery is responsible for the necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period; giving the proper care and training to mothers; assisting women to have natural birth; diagnosing the abnormal and referring patients to a health institution; training and implementation of family planning; monitoring the growth of 0-6 aged children and vaccinating children; giving support and advice to the individuals, families and society on first aid, vaccination, protection from communicable and social diseases and the issues related to war and, collecting numerical data used in healthcare services. Moreover, midwives play an important role in protecting and improving the health of individuals, families and society with their works in primary, secondary and tertiary stages of healthcare services.
The profession of physiotherapist refers to a profession, which has the necessary knowledge and skills to use physiotherapeutic assessment methods and treatment approaches for all kinds of injuries, diseases, aging, pain and dysfunctions that cause movement disorders and which plays a key role to enhance the quality of health and life.
Having a comprehensive curriculum updated based on national and international regulations and precedents, the Faculty of Health Sciences of Haliç University has 39 instructors. The number of our academic staff increases in parallel with our academic programs, thereby it enables us to meet current requirements.

Dean of Faculty
Prof. Dr. M. Güneş Yavuzer
Melek Güneş Yavuzer completed her undergraduate education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1992, her specialty in medicine at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1996, and her PhD at the University of Erasmus in 2006. Between 1998-1999 and 2003-2004, she participated in post-specialist clinical practice and scientific research at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Wayne State University, Michigan, USA. Yavuzer, who worked as a specialist medical doctor and faculty member at Ankara University Medical Faculty Hospitals, established the Walk Analysis Laboratory in 1997 with the support of the State Planning Organization. She received the European Board Certificate in her field in 2004. In 2010, she started to work as a faculty member at Haliç University.
