Program Overview

Molecular Biology and Genetics Department, one of the research active departments of our University, aims to understand the fundamental principles of life in molecular level and to translate this knowledge in various applications in medical, agricultural, food, environmental and industrial fields by collaboration with other disciplines.

All faculty are active in research and teaching and place great emphasis on student participation both in class and in research activities. The students gain a solid foundation in biology through lecture and laboratory courses and practical experience by taking part in research projects. The department’s aim is to prepare students for a promising future in research, and as a result, a large percentage of graduates pursue graduate studies in the country and abroad.

Our students can gain experience not only in basic research fields such as bacterial, yeast, and human genetics, molecular immunology, protein structure and function, environmental microbiology, neurobiology, and molecular modeling, but also in applied and interdisciplinary fields such as biomaterials, bionanotechnology, biotechnological drugs, enzyme biotechnology, and protein engineering.

Students pursue field-based courses such as microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, molecular genetics, biochemistry, biotechnology, immunology, and others, while benefiting from Halic’s infrastructure.
