American Culture and Literature

The program of the department includes language courses, which form the basis of culture and literature education, and general literature courses such as Mythology and Critical Theories in the first two years. In addition to these courses, non-field elective courses that students can choose according to their interests are also included in my curriculum. In the last two years, there are courses that examine the history, socio-cultural characteristics and literature of the multicultural American society consisting of different ethnic groups in depth with its historical, cultural and theoretical dimensions, as well as translation and elective courses for professional specialization.

Program Overview

Since the language of instruction in the department is English, it is important for our students to have an advanced level of English. For this reason, it is compulsory for our students with a low level of English to take one year of preparatory education. Students who are successful in the Preparatory Exemption exam can start their first year directly.

Internship Opportunities

To consolidate the theoretical knowledge and experience gained by Haliç University students during their education and training; In order to improve the skills they have acquired in laboratory and workshop practices, to enable them to get to know their personal responsibilities, business relations, production process, and new technologies in the workplace, students who have a compulsory internship in Haliç University Associate/Undergraduate/Graduate Education Plans will receive training and practice at their workplaces in Turkey and abroad. and covers the activities and principles related to internships. Students who do not have a compulsory internship can still find other alternatives to gain experience in the “Education in the Sector” program at Carrier Center.

What Can Graduates do?

After graduation, the students of the department can work as an English teacher, work as a translator, and find the opportunity to work in the fields of advertising and public relations, tourism, media, press broadcasting, and diplomacy and in multinational companies by obtaining an English Language Teaching Certificate. Students who want to continue their academic pursuits can continue their graduate education at various universities in Turkey and abroad.
